No matter what, as long as you’re in striking distance, you hit the enemy back and they hit you back when a blow lands. It's more crazy and fast paced than FFT. The juddering camera follows the action – that is, when it’s not instantly snap-cutting between enemies. Nothing compares to Tactics Ogre ;). The actual gameplay is utterly unremarkable, but fine. While there is nothing particularly bad about this game, it never manages to go so far as to stand out amidst its peers. the game isn't perfect. Mercenaries Wings: The False Phoenix is a serviceable SRPG that brings little new to the table but might satisfy an old-school itch.
First, like in the Mercenaries Saga games, units exhibit an aggro meter that fills during battle depending on what actions are used. I tried having the volume up to get a better sense of the atmosphere and the world of Dryden, and the result was “Wow, this is exactly the music I imagined, and I’ve heard it before”. I'm not big on tactical games myself, but even still, I've seen this done to death a million times. The story is honestly pretty forgettable, and most people will just want to skip through the exposition that talks about how the guy who says he’s helping you but seems suspicious is actually a bad guy. and looked better than this game does right now.
Mercenaries Saga Chronicles offers an awful lot of tactical turn-based strategy content for the asking price, but the dull storylines, repetitive gameplay, and absolutely identical nature of all three titles make us question the reasoning behind packaging them all together as a bundle. There's quite a few options you can use, most stages were fairly interesting and I had a good time throughout (I've went through both story paths of the first game, and started the second one). Gamers didn’t expect the series to continue beyond the original trilogy, but shortly after Chronicles’ release, Radeon announced Mercenaries Wings: The Fallen Phoenix, the fourth entry to the Mercenaries series.

The developers are clearly trying to copy a certain 16 bit style while adding some depth perception through leveled terrain, but it just feels incredibly rough and coarse.
