Her headstrong husband eventually leaves the protection of the wagon train and heads out on his own which ultimately leads to his demise, leaving his ill-equipped wife alone in the wilderness. Through its metaphor, the film argues that there is more than enough money, food and resources to go around, but overconsumption inevitably leads to inequality, and the wealthy are not inclined (or incentivized) to share.
