It has not received any safety or durability testing, and conforms to no aircraft standards. Dont worry too much John, it sounds fine.
If you say the fuel burn increased over a period then something changed or is changing. This change reasoning. I got a call from UPS, my 582 will be delivered in the morning.
An optional High Altitude Compensation kit is available.

I was trying to compare it to adverts for a Rotax 912 based planes where they generally quote 12-14 l/hr (also backed up by friends who have 912 based planes). An 87 octane fuel would therefore become 85 octane. Sorry, I should have added that the result will not necessarily give you % power of 64 HP, as this is dependant on prop pitch density altitude etc, but will rather indicate the % of available power.
The only thing that couldn't stay in the air more than 2 seconds was the kohler, and that was a power issue.
An integral alternating current generator producing 170 watts at 12 volts with external rectifier-regulator is optional. I do have a fuel flow meter. Thanks, I think the light has come on.
(The type E gearbox includes an integrated electric starter motor.) Gyro's are draggy devices, (I think Ken Brock said that) so fuel comsumption will be higher that that of a fixed wing, but you can directly control fuel useage by the throttle lever! [2][3] The 582 increased the bore from the 532 engine's 72 to 76 mm (2.8 to 3.0 in).
In the PRA ground school we are learning about flight planning. Re: 582 Rotax Fuel Consumption - advice please! Does it made a difference if you have oil injection or pre-mixed gas and oil on fuel comsumption? I am concerned in that my Rotax 582 (silver top) fuel consumption rate appears to have increased gradually over the past six months. The true cost of gasoline and diesel fuel is about the same except diesel has slightly higher energy content per liter. User assumes all risk of use, and acknowledges by his use that he knows this engine is subject to sudden stoppage...Never fly the aircraft equipped with this engine at locations, airspeeds, altitudes, or other circumstances from which a successful no-power landing cannot be made, after sudden engine stoppage. I ran it at about 46-51 hundred RPM and could fly almost an hour before the fuel would disapear in the sight tube. It would take about 4gal. Most gyros won't maintain altitude at 5000 rpms.
Max RPM: Max Power: Max Torque : Fuel Consumption : KW: HP : NM : Ft Lb. The Rotax 582 is a 48 kW (64 hp) two-stroke, two-cylinder, rotary intake valve, oil-in-fuel or oil injection pump, liquid-cooled, gear reduction-drive aircraft engine manufactured by BRP-Rotax GmbH & Co. KG.It is for use in non-certified aircraft operating in day visual flight rules Thats at a slow crusise of about 65 MPH.
Tracy Crook, a long ago Sunstate gyro flyer used to say; “Fuel consumption in a gyro is no more relevant than a light weight tombstone.”.
I think Mike Gaspard posted a link to the Rotax fuel burn comparison link awhile back. Engine stoppage can result in crash landings, forced landings or no power landings. You must log in or register to reply here.

The consumption might still be on par with others but YOUR engine is not the same so it needs to be invetigated. 582 Rotax Fuel Consumption - advice please! @2020 - All Right Reserved. This increased the displacement from 521.2 cc (31.81 cu in) to 580.7 cc (35.44 cu in), an increase of 11%. I have some notes from my old Kolb Slingshot with a 503, and I measured it's consumption between 4.25 and 4.75 gph. Second, fuel evaporates and loses its octane rating when it lays in your aircraft’s fuel tank or in a plastic jug.

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard [2][3], Early in the engine's production the propeller drive was via a Rotax type B gearbox, which offered gear ratios of 2.0:1, 2.238:1, and most common 2.58:1. My engine is at 700 hours and I have never done a 'carb service'.
No real 'danger' per se, but Rotax says you may use it as an alternative to Mogas if it is the only fuel available. I knew it would depend on a lot of factors, but I didn't think it would be quite that variable. low rider, sky wheels 25' , pilot 165lbs average 4.7 gallons/hr and range 60 statute miles with 5 gallon tank 2 quart reserve.
I don't think it would matter if it was a 503 or a 582, assuming you were using the same power. 5000/6500 = 77%. Aircraft equipped with this engine must only fly in DAYLIGHT VFR conditions. Advice that I got from Avcom when I posted a similar query was -. What are other peoples experiences on fuel consumption on the 582? I don't know of anyone recommending you run ANY THING but AV Gas in a Mac. I've heard a lot of people say they run autogas in them. Thanks for the comments.
At take off with max revs 6500 it is bouncing around 25L,/hr then when I start cruising at 5000 rpm it hovers around 9 L/hr unless I pull the bar in and give a bit more throttle.
Re: Rotax 582 consumption Carbon on the base ring is a rich idle setting. What you are burning sounds about right. This is the recommended rebuild time as stated in the Rotax engine manual.

Rusty, your gear box and prop are all part of the equation as well. I have a new 582 blue head and no oil injector. Rusty, When I had my AC 582 W/23' Skywheels, I weighed in at about 155-160lbs. Four stroke sips very little fuel compared to 2 strokers.
