So there's a bit of false advertisement in the title, because it's more about the people living in the aftermath of the plague. Summary. Dystopians are all the rage right now, but I wanted to read something different, and this book provides just that. It was an OK story for me. The Plague Chronicle is launched under the guise of providing informed commentary on the epidemic, but it contains nothing but advertisements for "infallible antidotes" against the plague. Chapter 22, - Everyone in Oran must face the prospect of catching the plague; everyone is "under suspicion" of contagion. Part of the point of the novel is that plague, like war and weather, is not logical, but irrational. Even though his wife had a powerful position of her own, that could call her away at any time, she had a remarkable lack of understanding when he was called away. This book was written three years prior to the September 11th attacks and it accurately predicts much of the biochemical terrorism that has occurred since that time as well as earlier evenhts. Grand explains to Rieux that in writing his book he wants to create a flawless manuscript. Character developtation: I think that Stephen grows a lot in these chapters because he was very close to his grandfather before he died and now after he died Stephen is starting to notice how mean he was and how much he did not want to act like him. He detests watches, so he marks time by moving peas from one saucepan into another. Although there are "more doctors than patients," the death toll continues to rise. Esch, Randall, and Junior move their bed linens to the living room and take turns watching TV. I used to think the end of the world meant the end of everything. The reader knows what is happening in this story of biological terrorism aimed at fundamentalist religious leaders, and we learn why long before those in the book who are trying to stop him in this race against time. The military has turned to human trafficking and slavery, human decency is at an all time low and there is no one to trust but yourself. I love zombies. This book was, for the most part, entirely unmemorable and not really worth reading.
