you bought a device and tried to use it for a purpose it isn’t meant for and you’re mad that it doesn’t work?! I installed the Smart Things app because Echo on my phone does not give notifications if the device is open (how incredibly stupid for a security system!!). If you have any insight into why, we’d love to hear from you. Tried the reset method multiple times. There is something wrong with the device or the fact that ST was installed.
I’ve reset multipurpose sensors many times and had no problems re-joining them to my SmartThings hub. The multipurpose sensor may be out of range. The SmartThings Multipurpose Sensor is great for monitoring doors, windows, cabinets, or any off-limits area. When you put in new battery, did the LED turn on?
If so, then they use coin batteries that can be a little finicky, especially since the replacement battery for some sensors are very specific (must be Duracell and not Panasonic, etc). Hi, I have just purchased the Smarthings Hub + Multipurpose Sensor to alert me when my front door is open or when someone is knocking on the door with the vibration sensor. Either way, it’s not naturally easy if there is a solution at all. now i tried 2 out of 4 and they dont connect… the blue light keeps blinking and hub just doesnt find them.

Perhaps there’s an issue with the battery, or maybe even the battery isn’t mounted properly (touching the metal contact points or inserted wrong)? A member of our SmartThings Support staff will respond as soon as possible.
I am using a similar setup with several multipurpose sensors and Alexa. If the Multipurpose Sensor is not performing as expected, you may need to reset the device and/or remove and reconnect the device with the SmartThings Hub. I’ve also used a sharp pointed tool to slightly bend those contacts to make sure they touched the battery. If you have the newest version, you can find steps for your device here. I contacted Samsung support, and they said because I am using the sensor outside of the US they are not covered by the warranty and they are not willing to assist me.
Wasted so much time and I will probably never buy a Samsung product again. What’s the model/version of the sensor? What you can try to do with the nonworking sensor is to put that known good battery back in and move it around (especially sideways and down where the contacts are located) to see if you get the LED to turn on. Now that I deleted the device to start over again it won’t discover it. The issue was when I deleted it and tried to pair it again. I had one just die a couple years back, and since it was out of warranty I was left with having to buy a new one. Here are a couple of tips to learn which SmartThings Multipurpose Sensor model you have. I recently bought a used SmartThings Hub v2 along with two multipurpose sensors and a motion sensor (the squared one with the sensor in the corner). The problem I have is that all these sensors have an astonishingly short range.
